Transactional Analysis (TA) in London
Do you keep repeating the same negative cycles in your relationships and life? Would you like to move forward with the help of a practical, structured, and long-established talk therapy?
What is transactional analysis?
Since the 1950s, transactional analysis has been around. Psychoanalyst Eric Bern created TA to provide a more practical and results-driven therapy.
Whenever you have a problem, it believes that it’s a result of your social interactions. It is possible to create a happier life by breaking out of unhelpful relating patterns and role playing, and learning how to recognize and troubleshoot the ways you think and feel.
An individual, a couple, or a family can benefit from transactional therapy, which works both short-term and long-term.
The transactional therapy model
When we encounter someone or a group, we may get stuck playing unconscious ‘roles’. We can behave one way with one person or group and completely different around another. There is a theory in TA therapy that these ‘transactions’ occur because of what it calls ‘ego states’, different sides of ourselves that have different ways of thinking and acting.
When we are dominating and judgmental, we are in our ‘parent’ ego state. Sulking, rebellious behavior, or people pleasing are characteristics of the ‘child ego’. As people grow into adult ego states, rationality, objectivity, and thoughtfulness become part of their everyday lives as a result of transactional analysis.
Benefits of working with a TA therapist
You can benefit from transactional analysis in the following ways:
- Eliminate unhelpful ways of thinking, feeling, and acting
- Communicate productively rather than destructively
- Increase self-awareness and develop self-reflection
- Engage in healthy interactions instead of draining ones
- Stop feeling trapped and break free from long-held patterns
- Take steps towards living a life you actually want.
